Royal Asiatic Society – Events in October (Free and open to all)3.10.2025 {de}
October at the RAS is brimming with fascinating talks: Prof. Tirthankar Roy opens the month (9 Oct) by revisiting the Permanent Settlement debate and what it reveals about colonial Bengal; Dr. Liz Driver (22 Oct) explores the Scots who shaped early 19th-century Central India; and Prof. Usha Vijailakshmi (23 Oct) traces the Asiatic Society of Mumbai’s rich legacy into the present. We’ll then celebrate the launch of Dr. Jochen Sokoly’s book on early Islamic tiraz textiles (27 Oct), before Prof. Scott Redford (28 Oct) takes us to medieval Anatolia through the Bilkent excavations at Kinet Höyük. Finally, Prof. Peter Clift (30 Oct) draws the month to a close with a sweeping look at how Asia’s societies have been shaped by climate shifts and changing rivers. A lively mix of history, heritage, art, and environment — we hope you can join us, either in person at the Society or online over Zoom!
If you wish to join us over zoom please register with Matty Bradley at mb[at]royalasiaticsociety.org
Free and open to all at Royal Asiatic Society, 14 Stephenson Way, London NW1 2HD.
