CfP: Student Journal for Central Asian Studies Special Issue: Horizons23.1.2026 {en}

The Student Central Asia Forum is delighted to announce a call for submissions for our biannual issue on the theme of ‚Horizons‘. Please see the attached photo for more information.

Long perceived externally as a ‘frontier region’ at the boundaries of competing (neo-)imperial interests, Central Asia is increasingly exerting itself as a region of independent actors expanding their horizons into the global arena. For the Student Central Asia Forum’s Spring 2026 issue, we invite contributions considering Central Asia’s multitude of Horizons, both within Central Asian nations themselves, and transnationally. Embracing a broader understanding of horizons, we welcome essays that explore how boundaries are made, reinforced, transgressed, or relaxed within the cultures that create them.

Our contributions typically submit short essays (800-1200 words). For this issue, we would also like to encourage creative writing prose, poetry, photography, interviews, translations, and other relevant alternative pieces.

Deadline for pitch submission: January 31st 2026

Please send submissions via the google form: https://forms.gle/CVDi9LUNu97fxViB6 or to the following address: centralasiaforum[at]proton.me
