Korea and the South China Sea: Geopolitical Meeting Places of the World PowersHans Jürgen Dietrich

ASIEN – Nr. 14 (1985) pp. 48–57

For geopolitical as well as geo-strategic reasons the three greatest powers, the USA, the USSR and China directly face each other over the Korean peninsula and the South China Sea. After a brief review of the geopolitical situation in the East Asian-West Pacific region since 1639, the article examines the balance of power among the global and regional powers in the Korean peninsula and the geostrategic situation in the South China Sea region.
