Seeking common ground: the notion of “unwritten rules”

This special issue or Themenheft of ASIEN addresses the burgeoning relationship between area studies and different academic disciplines. Most of the articles that are included were first presented as papers in an international workshop held at Marburg University, Germany, in January 2013. The other contributions have been included to add to the issue’s overall thematic coherence.
